Sound Recording Workshop Track
with Sound Museum Collective + Futurefarmers
contains a mix of field recordings manipulated with wind and water sensors using arduino and max msp, raw field recordings, and a jam session held on the second day of workshops.
Awbury Arboretum, Adventure Woods and Farm Village
Germantown, Philadelphia
We will gather in Awbury Arboretum to record local forest frequencies—earthbound, subterranean, aeolian, and waterborne. Workshop participants will listen, receive and process sounds while expanding our notions of the spacetime dimension that trees inhabit–particularly given their ability to travel via seeds broadcast through the air. We will collect and process sounds of pileated woodpeckers, owls and migratory birds that inhabit the forest’s canopy; as well as sounds of the underground networks of mycelium, and the local micro-shed.
Day 1: Collect field recordings for sound bank
Day 2: Process recordings with sensors: waterflow and wind
Recordings will be elaborated during the Summoning of the Future Forest performance on Sunday, September 26th with Sun Ra Arkestra
Participants will develop sensitive listening skills and learn how to use existing and adapted tools and methods for recording.
